A historic place with a rich cultural scene

Washington County, the crossroads of the Civil War and known for its history, has a rich cultural scene. Hagerstown’s Arts & Entertainment District is home to the Washington County Arts Council; the Maryland Theatre; the Maryland Symphony Orchestra; Barbara Ingram School for the Arts; the Hagerstown Cultural Trail; the University of Maryland Hagerstown; and the Washington County Free Library.

Downtown Hagerstown is also home to Augustoberfest, Wind Down Downtown Hagerstown, the Alsatia Mummers Parade, Shakespeare in the Park and the Western Maryland Blues Fest.

One of Hagerstown’s treasures is its network of parks and recreational facilities. From quiet and historic City Park, to Fairgrounds Park, to the family-oriented amenities at Pangborn Park and Hager Park, residents have a range of facilities to enjoy. Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and The Mansion House Art Gallery, in the City Park, are accessible via the Cultural Trail. And to top it off, local wineries welcome visitors throughout the year with the Antietam Highland Wine Trail.
