Scenic shorelines, historic towns, rolling hills, and picturesque farmland
In Harford County, tucked between the Chesapeake Bay and Pennsylvania, one can travel scenic shoreline, quaint historic towns, rolling hills and picturesque farmland.
In 2017, the Cultural Center at the Opera House opened in a historic 1870 building in Havre de Grace, with a full slate of entertainment in the heart of the town’s Arts & Entertainment District. Closer to the waterfront, you can visit the Artists Emporium, featuring local and regional artists and musical and dance performances; the Arts by the Bay Gallery; and a number of history and heritage-focused museums. And, each summer, the town hosts the oldest juried art event in the region, the Havre de Grace Art Show, for a weekend of artisans and entertainment along the Susquehanna River.
In Bel Air, the Harford Artists’ Association is open four days per week and has exhibits throughout the county. Stroll the Bel Air Arts & Entertainment District to explore art displayed at local retail shops, public art throughout town, and al fresco performances. Shamrock Park is home of the annual Bel Air Festival for the Arts, and the Town of Bel Air Film Festival brings newly-released documentaries to the historic Armory every October.
Just outside of town, visit the Liriodendron Art Gallery, at the historic mansion in Heavenly Waters Park, and be sure to visit for Harford’s Plein Air Festival, a week-long juried competition each October with artists painting outdoors throughout the county.
Steppingstone Farm Museum, Havre de Grace Decoy Museum, and Jerusalem Mill, celebrate the folk and traditional arts, and during the warmer months, concerts—many free or low-priced—are held in the town's parks, nature centers, and museums, including the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum, Ladew Topiary Gardens, and Deer Creek Coffeehouse.
