The arts are alive in Garrett County

Metal sculpture outside cabinFrom Appalachian traditions to today's headliners, there is always something happening in Garrett County. In Oakland, one of the county's two Arts & Entertainment Districts, Garrett County Arts Council runs The Gallery Shop, featuring more than 150 regional artisans.

In Grantsville (our other A&E district), Spruce Forest Artisan Village highlights traditional Appalachian art.  Resident artists and many guest artists welcome the public to their log studios all summer.  There are also many private galleries around the county. Music at Penn Alps and Garrett Lakes Arts Festival bring quality performance to the mountaintop.  Several towns have summer festivals with crafts and live music.

There's summer stock and community theatre and old-time jam sessions in every corner of the county. You’ll find public art as you travel our scenic back roads following Maryland's first Barn Quilt trail featuring more than 40 quilt-themed murals. Whether you come for ice cravings at Winterfest, Artist Studio Tours in July, or to enjoy the colorful Autumn Glory Festival, the arts are alive in Garrett County.
