The heart of Chesapeake Country

Dorchester County’s galleries, murals, music, and a burgeoning culinary arts scene bear witness to the beauty of the Chesapeake.

Cambridge features an Arts & Entertainment District and Maryland Main Street, offering events, festivals, and arts experiences throughout the year. The Dorchester Center for the Arts, a cultural arts center housed in an 1880s former furniture store, houses the Dorchester County Arts Council, welcoming thousands of visitors annually.

The Chesapeake Country Mural Trail highlights Dorchester’s culture and history along the Michener Chesapeake Country Scenic Byway.

Walk or drive along a historic brick street lined with 18th- and 19th-century homes, all the way to the waterfront and the Choptank River Lighthouse at Long Wharf.

The town of Vienna hosts a Native American art, music and dance festival in September.

A must-see in Dorchester is the park and visitor center devoted to native daughter Harriet Tubman, featuring stories of Harriet Tubman’s life and work in exhibits and the visitor center’s theater. Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge is next door; home to the largest breeding population of American bald eagles on the East Coast north of Florida.
