The gateway to historic Southern Maryland

Chesapeake Chorale SingingCharles County is full of charm and plenty of arts activity.  If you're looking for music, you can hear concerts by the Southern Maryland Concert Band and Chesapeake Choral Arts Society, and outdoor summer concerts in La Plata and at the College of Southern Maryland.

In visual art, there is an array of gallery spaces, including the Waldorf West Library, Charles Regional Medical Center, Charles County Government Building and Community Bank of the Chesapeake. Artists can take a master class in painting or sculpture at the Mattawoman Creek Art Center near the Potomac River.

If you adore theatre, you won’t want to miss Charles County’s award-winning Port Tobacco Players, celebrating its 69th season.  Dance studios are everywhere, and seeing "The Nutcracker" live onstage is a beloved holiday tradition for young and the young at heart!

For authors, the Life Journeys Writers Guild hosts numerous public events for local writers to share their works with the public.   Be sure to attend our annual ArtsFest regional outdoor arts festival and enjoy all the arts at once!
